Songs of the Revolution
Ramy Essam is a Rock singer that made headlines during the Arab Spring in 2011 Egypt. His song "Irhal", became the hymn of the Egyptian Revolution and marked a historical moment in the memory of those that heard it for the first time on Tahrir Square.
Like many of his compatriots, Ramy was put in prison. He was offered asylum in Sweden and currently is being invited to participate in different events around Europe revolving around not only the Egyptian Revolution, but also the role of music in civil uprisings.
